In early access Hytale, a problem folks have been running into is receiving a slow connection/world not loading error despite your connection being just fine. Let's look at how to identify and resolve this issue.

Is this error affecting my server?

This issue sometimes affects players on Windows. If you're not on a Windows machine, it's likely not your issue. But if you are, look for these identifiers:

  • Your connection is otherwise fine. Netflix is uninterrupted, but you can't connect on the server.

  • Your singleplayer world is playable, and the problem only is affecting multiplayer.

  • Connecting to the server is very slow.

  • You can't see yourself move, but friends may be able to see you move. Vice versa may also be true.

  • If you have an Ethernet USB dongle onhand, you can confirm if this is your issue by attempting to connect through that. If that works, this is officially your problem. Proceed to solutions!

So, what's going on exactly?

Hytale uses the QUIC protocol, which is very modern at the current time and may not be fully supported on all computers.

What do you do to fix it?

First, let's move to the settings we need to adjust.

Step 1:

  • Go to Start and type "network".

  • Select View Network Connections: Control Panel

Windows search showing View network connections used for troubleshooting Hytale connection issues.

Step 2:

  • Select whatever network you're using to connect to the internet.

  • Right click and go to Properties.

  • Within Properties, go to Configure.

Windows Network Connections showing adapter properties for resolving Hytale connection issues.

Solutions

From here, try the solutions one at a time and check to see if it handled the problem. You may not need to perform all of these actions, and some of these options may not be available for you.

Solution 1

  • Under the Advanced tab, select Priority & VLAN.

  • Change the setting to Priority & VLAN Disabled.

Network adapter advanced settings showing Packet Priority & VLAN disabled to fix Hytale connection issues.

  • Wait for your internet connection to be restored and then attempt to connect to the server again.

Solution 2

  • Change Recv. Segment Coalescing (IPv4) to Disabled.

  • Change Recv. Segment Coalescing (IPv6) to Disabled.

Network adapter advanced settings showing Recv Segment Coalescing disabled to address Hytale connection issues.

  • Wait for your internet connection to be restored and then attempt to connect to the server again.

Solution 3

  • Change the following settings to Disabled.

    • Advanced EEE

    • ARP Offload

    • Energy-Efficient Ethernet

    • Flow Control

    • Green Ethernet

Network adapter advanced settings showing energy-saving ethernet features disabled to resolve Hytale connection issues.

Solution 4

If none of the solutions above resolve the issue, a more aggressive approach may be required. This involves making deeper configuration changes that can be difficult to undo without reinstalling the driver, as the default values are not preserved.

The values used for this step were sourced from a Reddit discussion linked below: https://reddit.com/r/buildapc/comments/tft3u0/is_realtek_25gbe_lan_issue_fixed/k9evtu0/

Conclusion

If you were running into slow connections or worlds failing to load despite having a stable internet connection, these steps should help narrow down and resolve the issue. In most cases, only one or two of the earlier solutions are needed, so be sure to test after each change rather than applying everything at once.

If the problem persists even after the advanced changes, reinstalling your network driver may be the cleanest way to reset everything back to default.
