Hytale has officially landed, and players have been enjoying it for a couple of weeks now. The numbers have been staggering! With over 2.8 million concurrent players, the game has already rocketed to the #3 most played title on Nodecraft, sitting proudly alongside our veterans like Minecraft and FiveM. This kind of immediate success and community love is due in huge part to Hytale's embracing of User Generated Content (UGC) with day-one modding and plugin support built into the game!
Hypixel Studios built Hytale with UGC in mind. Mods are not an afterthought, they're something woven into Hytale's DNA, and the community has embraced the game with open-arms. So when Hytale dropped on January 13th, we were ready and waiting. Thanks to the advanced documentation Hypixel Studios provided ahead of release, we had Hytale servers live at the top of the hour, and as soon as the game was available. While some partners forced customers to provide their own authentication, or edit config files and startup options, Nodecraft customers were already online and exploring Orbis, the planet users begin their journey in Hytale on!
Our investment in technology and community allowed us to lead the charge here, and we'll explore what we have built to support the creators who will define Hytale's future.
Ease of Use Starts with Infrastructure
One of Hytale's standout architectural decisions is its approach to server authentication. Many game servers either do not authenticate at all, or use a simple but less secure system with singular tokens. Hypixel Studios implemented a robust Game Server Provider (GSP) authentication system that allows verified hosts like Nodecraft the ability to seamlessly authenticate servers without introducing technical complexity on customers. It removes manual tokens, removes manual config edits, and just gets people in-game quicker.
However, being ready at launch with seamless integration required more than just API access to Hypixel's authentication systems. It demanded the modularity of owning the entire tech stack, which we have refined with over a decade of research and development. Because we control everything from the bare-metal nodes that game servers run on, to the orchestration layer and the control panel, we could integrate Hytale support before launch day. We did not have to wait for upstream providers to push updates or templates.
When release time hit for Hytale, we were already there; that is the difference between simply "adding support" and truly empowering a community from hour zero.
Player Management Without the Headache
Once your Hytale server is live, managing it should be easy. Your focus should be on enjoying the game, its content, and any UGC you want to play with - not juggling config files. We have a history of building deep integrations with the games we support, and Hytale is no exception with a comprehensive suite of player management tools available directly in the Nodecraft control panel, giving users granular control without ever touching config files or command line options.
Supporting player bans, allowlist/whitelist management, and even the deep permissions system built into Hytale, our player management tools are perfect for everyone. Large communities will benefit from robust permissions and bans management, and friends/family servers will benefit from easy group management and allow/whitelist configuration. All of these tools are powered by PlayerDB and Crafthead, which we'll talk about in more detail later.
Manage and Update UGC Mods Easily
The modding community for Hytale has been prolific. With over 3,000 mods and 10 million downloads, Hytale modding is not slowing down! We had the privilege of sitting down with Darkhax and Jared, two incredible modders for Minecraft who got early access to Hytale and released many mods on day one! Some of these mods include the extremely popular EyeSpy, and Simply Trash. We asked them about their experience with modding Hytale, how it differs from Minecraft, and what they're looking forward to in the future - definitely give it a read!
We're also not just observers in the space. Our team dove into Hytale modding on day one, and we released Flare, a server performance profiler that helps you monitor and identify exactly what is causing lag on your server. Flare gives you real-time insights into TPS drops, garbage collection statistics and performance bottlenecks so you can keep your server running smoothly even under heavy mod loads.
Managing Mods
Installing mods is as simple as clicking "Install" from our integrated CurseForge browser after finding a mod you like. For a game like Hytale that's constantly updating and improving though, keeping your mods up to date is just as important!
Our system automatically flags outdated mods and lets you one-click update them. We even handle the hot-reload for you, ensuring your server stays current without manual restarts or file wrangling.
Giving Back to the Hytale Community via Open Source
Today, Nodecraft powers a significant portion of the infrastructure behind the Minecraft modding ecosystem, and we give it away for free. With over 1B API requests per month, we understand what UGC authors need to power their mods, websites, apps, and more.
PlayerDB and HytaleID
PlayerDB is our JSON-powered player fetching and caching API that handles username-to-UUID resolution (and vice versa) at scale. When mods, plugins, or external tools need to look up player data, they are often hitting PlayerDB, serving over 1 billion requests per month across all platforms. This prevents rate-limiting issues with official APIs and gives developers a reliable, fast way to access player metadata.
For Hytale specifically, we have extended this ecosystem with HytaleID, providing the same robust player data services for this new universe of creators. We dive into how to lookup Hytale player UUIDs in our blog post about HytaleID.
Crafthead
Similarly, Crafthead provides radically fast avatar services for player skins, historically only Minecraft, but we quickly added supported for Hytale avatars! Need to display a player's head in a web UI, a Discord bot, or an in-game interface? Crafthead delivers renders quickly globally, powered by Cloudflare Workers. It is completely open source, completely free, and used by major projects including CurseForge, LuckPerms, and all of the interfaces you've seen above in our own control panel.

These tools are not just for Nodecraft customers. They are used by other hosting providers, plugin authors, mod developers, and tool creators across the entire Hytale and Minecraft ecosystems. We believe that empowering UGC means lowering the barriers for everyone,. By enhancing the player ecosystem with open infrastructure, we help create a rising tide that lifts all ships, and ultimately creates better experiences for every player.
Supporting Customers with a New Game Release
When a new game launches, the studio's support channels get flooded. We believe part of our job as a world-class GSP is to absorb some of that shock through intelligent UI and UX design, as well as comprehensive documentation.
As we've explored above, our deep and custom UI integrations for player management, worlds, and lots more available for customers helped alleviate so many common questions around configuration and tweaking. Our control panel handles the integration automatically, solving common customer friction points before they become support tickets
Knowledgebase at Scale
At launch, we published 30 detailed KB articles covering everything from basic server setup to advanced configuration. To date now, that number has grown to 75+ articles, addressing everything from basic tips and tricks, edge cases, mod compatibility issues, and optimization guides. Our goal is simple, if a player has a question about running their Hytale server, we want the answer to exist before they have to ask.
This is not just about customer service - though that's definitely a huge win, it is also about taking load off Hypixel Studios. When we handle the "how do I install a mod" questions through our interface and documentation, the studio can focus on bug fixes, content updates, and making the game better. It is a partnership that benefits everyone, especially the players.
Check out our Hytale knowledgebase today if you have any questions at all about the game, UGC, troubleshooting, and so much more.
