All about Hytale's Forgotten Temple
The Forgotten Temple is one of the most important locations you’ll find in Hytale. While it may look like an ancient ruin at first, it isn’t just a place to explore or fight enemies. The Forgotten Temple acts as a progression hub, unlocking key systems that shape how you play the game.

This is where players unlock the Memories feature and gain access to the Rootling Merchant, making the Forgotten Temple a must-visit location early on.
How to Get to the Forgotten Temple
Getting to the Forgotten Temple is straightforward, and the game points you in the right direction early on.
Portals to the Forgotten Temple can spawn throughout the world, but one is usually located very close to spawn. You can find it easily by checking your compass, which will mark the location for you.

Once you reach the portal building, head inside and look for the stairs behind the altar. Follow them down and you’ll find a blue portal guarded by an Earthen Golem.

You have two options here:
Fight the Earthen Golem using copper weapons and armor, which is more than enough
Or simply run past it if you don’t feel like dealing with the fight
The golem will respawn every time your return from the Forgotten Temple, so skipping it is completely fine.
Step into the blue portal to travel to the Edge of the Echo, the area that houses the Forgotten Temple. This zone is entirely peaceful, so once you arrive you can wander without worry of bears.
To exit the Forgotten Temple, go back through the portal on the other side.

Unlocking the Memories Feature
The main reason to visit the Forgotten Temple is to unlock Memories. Memories are a progression system that rewards players for restoring fragments over time. Instead of increasing your health or damage, Memories unlock items, crafting options, and world features that improve convenience and flexibility.
Memories are about expanding what you can build, store, travel with, and craft. They do not make your player stronger in combat, but they make the game world easier to manage as it grows.

The Rootling Merchant and Essence of Life
The Forgotten Temple is also home to the Rootling Merchant, a plant-like trader that uses Essence of Life as currency.

Instead of weapons or armor, the Rootling Merchant sells:
Food and cooking ingredients
Prepared meals and snacks
Basic survival supplies
The shop has limited stock. When an item sells out, it disappears until it refreshes. Sold–out items return after about three in-game days, and the full inventory refreshes every third server day, even if nothing was purchased. It is encouraged to spend Essence of Life regularly rather than letting it pile up unused.

Conclusion
The Forgotten Temple isn’t here to make you stronger, faster, or scarier. It’s here to make your life easier.
Unlock Memories, spend your Essence of Life, grab supplies, and move on. You’ll be coming back often, not for fights or loot, but because this is where Hytale keeps all the helpful stuff.
