Sulfur is mainly used to produce Gunpowder when paired with Charcoal. Gunpowder is crucial for crafting ammunition and is unlocked at Level 21 for 2 Technology Points. Each unit of Gunpowder requires 1 Sulfur and 2 Charcoal to craft.

With the Sakurajima update, the game introduced the Sulfur Mine, which can be constructed at your base for automated collection. To build the Sulfur Mine, you need:

  • 70 Stone

  • 100 Sulfur

  • 30 Paldium Fragments

The Sulfur Mine becomes available at Level 52 and costs 5 Ancient Technology Points to unlock.

Optimal Sulfur Mining Locations

Location 1

At coordinates -385, -507, this location is one of the easiest to access early in the game. Start at the Foot of the Volcano fast travel point and head slightly west to reach a clearing. The area is relatively spread out, containing a total of 8 Sulfur Nodes and a few Ore Deposits, making it a great starting point for gathering resources.

Location 2

Situated at -465, -412, this location lies in the middle of a lava pool northeast of the Mount Obsidian - Midpoint fast travel point. There are 4 Sulfur Nodes, a few Ore Deposits, and an oil field nearby. Additionally, you can explore the Volcanic Cavern, a Level 40 dungeon, in this area. Head slightly northwest to find a Pal statue at -487, -381, along with 3 more Sulfur Nodes and another oil field. Be cautious of the wild Pals in the area and come prepared.

Location 3

Found at -497, -513, this location hosts 6 Sulfur Nodes and 2 Ore Deposits. To get here, travel south from the Mount Obsidian - Midpoint fast travel point or east from the Eternal Pyre Tower Entrance. This area is swarming with wild Pals, including Vanwyrms, so gear up for a challenge. There are additional Sulfur Nodes in the vicinity for extra gathering opportunities.

Location 4

At coordinates -595, -520, this location is directly adjacent to the Tower of the Brothers of the Eternal Pyre. It contains 8 Sulfur Nodes along the edge of a lava pool drop-off. Compared to other locations, the Pal spawn rate is lower, making this spot relatively safer for mining.

Location 5

Located at -741, -443, begin at the Beach of Everlasting Summer fast travel point and head north. This area contains 7 Sulfur Nodes between two lava pools, with an 8th in the upper-level pool and a 9th on the far side of the lower pool. Due to the distance, it’s recommended to build a base nearby for easier access. Watch out for lava and wild Pals like Gobfin Ingis and Ragnahawks.
