How to Install Mods on Your Minecraft Server

Minecraft mods can enhance your gameplay experience by adding new features, tools, or dimensions to explore. This guide will walk you through installing individual mods on your Minecraft server using Nodecraft's intuitive panel. We’ll cover installing a mod framework like Forge or Fabric and how to upload mods to your server.

Step 1: Installing a Mod Framework (Forge or Fabric)

Before you can add mods to your server, you need to install a mod framework. The two most popular frameworks are Forge and Fabric. These frameworks make it possible to run mods on your server.

Choose Your Mod Framework

  1. Forge: Recommended for players looking for a large variety of mods, as it supports the most extensive collection of mods available.

  2. Fabric: Lightweight and modular, Fabric is great for newer mods and those that require better performance or customization.

Install Forge or Fabric via Nodecraft Pro Panel

  1. Log in to your Nodecraft account and navigate to your Server’s instance.

  2. In the left-hand menu, click on the One Click Installer.

  3. In the One Click Installer, you will see options for Forge and Fabric under the Modded Frameworks section.

  4. Select either Forge, Fabric, or any other, depending on your preference.

  5. Choose the version you wish to install. Make sure the version matches the version of Minecraft you intend to run.

  6. Click the Install button and wait for the installation process to complete.

Step 2: Downloading Minecraft Mods

Now that you have a mod framework installed, you can start downloading mods. Make sure that any mod you download is compatible with the mod framework (Forge or Fabric) and the Minecraft version you installed.

Finding Mods

  1. Visit popular mod websites such as CurseForge or Modrinth.

  2. Use the search function to find mods compatible with your selected mod framework.

  3. Download the .jar files of the mods you want to add to your server. Be sure that the mods are for the correct Minecraft version and mod framework.

Step 3: Uploading Mods to Your Server

With your mods downloaded, it’s time to upload them to your Nodecraft server.

Access the Server Files Page

  1. Go back to your Nodecraft panel.

  2. Navigate to the Server Files tab on the left side of your server's page.

  3. Open the mods folder. If the folder doesn’t exist, you might need to start the server once with Forge or Fabric installed to create it, or you can create it manually.

After uploading your mods, you need to restart your server for the changes to take effect.

  2. Click the Start or Restart button to start it again.

Your server will now start with the installed mods. You can join the server and start enjoying your newly modded Minecraft experience.

Step 5: Verify Your Mods Are Working

Once your server has restarted:

  1. Join your Minecraft server using the correct version of Minecraft (ensure it's the same version as the mods).

  2. Check if the mods are active by using commands or features added by the mods.

If everything is working correctly, you’ll see the new features in-game!

Troubleshooting Common Issues

Even with careful installation, issues can sometimes arise. Here are some common problems and their solutions:

Server Crashes on Startup

  • Cause: This is often due to an incompatible mod or a missing dependency.

  • Solution: Double-check that all mods are compatible with the Minecraft version and the mod framework (Forge or Fabric) you’re using. Some mods may require additional mods (dependencies) to work properly; ensure those are installed as well.

Mods Are Not Loading on the Server

  • Cause: The mods might not be placed in the correct folder, or the server may not have been restarted after uploading the mods.

  • Solution: Verify that the mods are in the correct mods folder on your server. If they are, try restarting the server again.

Server Won't Start After Adding a New Mod

  • Cause: The newly added mod could be corrupted or incompatible with other installed mods.

  • Solution: Remove the last mod you added and try starting the server again. If the server starts, the issue lies with that specific mod. You may need to find an alternative version of the mod or a different mod altogether.

Players Can't Join the Server

  • Cause: Players need to have the exact same mods installed on their client as those on the server.

  • Solution: Make sure all players have downloaded and installed the same mods and configs in their Minecraft client’s mods and config folder. Additionally, ensure they are using the correct Minecraft version.

Missing Mods Folder

  • Cause: The mods folder isn’t created.

  • Solution: Start the server with Forge or Fabric installed, then stop the server. The mods folder should now appear in the Server Files.

Conclusion

Installing mods on your Minecraft server using Nodecraft is a straightforward process, but occasional issues can arise. By following these troubleshooting tips, you should be able to resolve most common problems. Remember to always check mod compatibility with your installed framework and Minecraft version.
