How Cheat Commands Affect Achievements in Valheim
Using cheat commands in Valheim can affect achievement eligibility for both your character and world. This guide explains cheat flags, how spawned items affect progress, and how Steam players can re-enable achievements with the official bypass command.
For console setup and the full command list, see our Valheim Cheat Commands Overview.
How Cheat Commands Affect Achievements
As of Valheim 1.0, most commands that require devcommands can mark both the current character and world save as cheated, preventing normal achievement progress. Valheim displays a confirmation before entering a cheated state, helping prevent accidental changes. Without the achievement bypass, items created through developer commands can also be marked as cheated and temporarily prevent an otherwise eligible character from earning achievements while those items are in their inventory. Some tools, including freefly, are exceptions and do not trigger the same permanent cheat state. Turning devcommands off does not remove a cheat flag once it has been applied.
Re-Enable Achievements After Using Cheat Commands
Starting with patch 1.0.12, Steam players can use an official developer command to opt back into achievements after using devcommands or mods.
1. Press F5 to open the console.
2. Enter devcommands and press Enter.
3. Enter yesiuseddevcommandsbutiwantmyachievementsanyway.
4. Press Enter to enable the achievement bypass for the current character and save.
There are no spaces in the bypass command. Once enabled, achievement tracking can continue despite previous use of developer commands or mods.
Patch 1.0.15 also updated how dev-command items behave when the bypass is enabled. Items affected by dev commands are no longer marked as cheated for characters using the bypass, their naming was updated, and they can stack together normally again.
Restoring achievement eligibility does not undo changes made to your character or world. Keep backups before using commands that change or delete anything.
