Palworld Awakening Explained: How to Awaken Your Pals
Palworld 1.0 introduced Awakening, a new endgame upgrade that lets you push your favorite Pals beyond their normal limits. It is expensive, requires access to the World Tree, and gives your Pal a shiny golden glow so everyone knows you have been farming far too many gems.
What Is Awakening in Palworld?
Awakening permanently increases a Pal’s stats. It is a single upgrade rather than another progression track, so you do not need to repeatedly awaken the same Pal through multiple levels. Awakening does not evolve the Pal into a different species or replace its passive skills. It strengthens the Pal you already have, making it especially useful for powerful combat Pals you have finished breeding, condensing, and improving with Pal Souls. Awakened Pals can be identified by their golden visual effect and highlighted level display. The Pal’s status screen also shows the stat bonus provided by Awakening.
Awakening vs. Mutation
Awakening and Mutation were both added in Palworld 1.0, but they work very differently. Mutation occurs during breeding and can produce a newborn Pal with improved stats and a unique passive skill. Awakening is applied directly to a Pal you already own using an Awakening Crystal. In other words, Mutation helps you create a better Pal. Awakening helps you make that Pal even stronger.
How to Unlock Pal Awakening
Before you can start Awakening Pals, you will need access to the World Tree. This is an endgame area containing the materials required to craft Awakening Crystals. You will also need the Ancient Workbench, which unlocks at Technology Level 67 and costs five Technology Points. Building the Ancient Workbench requires:
50 Soralite Ingots
5 AI Cores
20 Bio Batteries
The Ancient Workbench cannot be operated directly by the player. Assign Pals with sufficiently high Handiwork and Medicine Production to craft items there.
How to Get Radiant Gems
Radiant Gems are collected from Pals found inside the World Tree. The type of Radiant Gem generally matches the element of the Pal that dropped it. There are nine Radiant Gem types:
Neutral
Fire
Water
Electric
Grass
Ice
Ground
Dark
Dragon
This matters because Awakening Crystals are element-specific. To awaken a Fire Pal, for example, you will need to collect Fire Radiant Gems and craft a Fire Awakening Crystal. You will also need World Tree Holy Water, another material obtained while exploring and defeating Pals within the World Tree.
How to Craft an Awakening Crystal
Each Awakening Crystal requires the following materials:
50 matching Radiant Gems
10 World Tree Holy Water
Craft the crystal at an Ancient Workbench. Make sure its element matches the Pal you intend to awaken before spending your materials.
How to Awaken a Pal
Once you have crafted the correct Awakening Crystal:
Place the Pal you want to awaken in your active party.
Open your inventory.
Select the Awakening Crystal.
Choose Use.
Select the compatible Pal and confirm the Awakening.
The upgrade is applied immediately and permanently.
Which Pal Should You Awaken First?
Radiant Gems take time to collect, so avoid using your first Awakening Crystal on a Pal you expect to replace shortly afterward.
Good candidates include Pals that already have:
Strong passive skills
High natural stats
Maximum Condensation
Pal Soul enhancements
An important role in your main combat team
Awakening is best treated as the final step of Pal improvement. Breed the Pal you want, finish its other upgrades, and then add the fancy golden glow of endgame approval.
Final Thoughts
Awakening gives Palworld players another reason to continue improving their best Pals after reaching the endgame. Collect element-specific Radiant Gems from the World Tree, craft an Awakening Crystal at the Ancient Workbench, and apply it to a Pal you are confident will remain part of your team. The material cost is steep, but turning your carefully bred combat monster into an even bigger combat monster is exactly the kind of responsible science Palworld encourages.
