The anticipation for Hytale is finally building to a fever pitch. As we approach the Early Access (EA) phase, Hypixel Studios has clarified exactly where players can play and why some platforms are waiting a bit longer.
If you’re wondering whether your setup is ready, here is the official breakdown of Hytale’s launch platforms based on the developer's first FAQ.
PC is the Priority (But Not on Steam Yet)
For the initial Early Access launch, Hytale will be a PC-only title. However, there is a significant catch for fans of Valve’s storefront: the game will not be available on Steam at the start.
The developers explained that they want to keep the launch "closer to the community" rather than using a third-party launcher. More importantly, there are technical hurdles:
"Steam currently doesn’t support some of our modding features; we will be in contact with Valve in the near future to see what’s possible."
While this doesn't rule out a Steam release in the future, players should prepare to use a standalone Hytale launcher for the foreseeable future.
What About Mac and Linux?
While the game is confirmed for PC, the team is still working on the specifics for other desktop operating systems. Support for Mac and Linux is currently "To Be Determined." The developers are focused on a stable Windows experience first before expanding to other desktop environments.
Consoles and Mobile: The Long Game
If you were hoping to explore Hytale from your couch or on the go, you’ll need to be patient.
Consoles: Early Access will not be available on PlayStation, Xbox, or Nintendo Switch. However, a console release is planned for later in the game's lifecycle.
Mobile: Similarly, there will be no mobile version during the EA phase.
The Bottom Line
To play Hytale the moment Early Access drops, you will need a Windows PC, the official game launcher, and an EA edition of Hytale. By focusing on a single platform initially, Hypixel Studios aims to refine the core gameplay and modding tools before tackling the complexities of cross-platform play.
