# Valheim Boss Guide: Eikthyr

Defeat Eikthyr in Valheim with this complete boss guide covering how to find and summon him, prepare for the fight, avoid his attacks, and claim his rewards and Forsaken Power.

Eikthyr is the first boss you will face in Valheim and is found in the Meadows biome. Defeating Eikthyr gives you access to your first Forsaken Power and the Hard Antlers needed to craft the Antler Pickaxe, allowing you to begin mining ore and progressing into metal equipment.

In this guide, we will go over how to find and summon Eikthyr, how to prepare for the fight, the attacks you should watch for, and the rewards you will receive after defeating him.

## How to Find Eikthyr

You do not need to search through the Meadows manually to find Eikthyr. A Vegvisir for Eikthyr can be found at the Sacrificial Stones where you first enter your Valheim world.

Locate the small glowing Vegvisir next to Eikthyr's Sacrificial Stone and interact with it. This will add the location of the nearest Eikthyr Mystical Altar to your map.

Open your map after interacting with the Vegvisir and look for the Eikthyr boss marker. Travel to this location to find Eikthyr's Mystical Altar in the Meadows.

When you arrive at the marked location, look for the large stone altar surrounded by runestones. This is where you will return once you have the items required to summon Eikthyr.

## How to Prepare for Eikthyr

Eikthyr is the first boss in Valheim, so you do not need advanced equipment before starting the fight. A little preparation still goes a long way, especially if you would rather not spend the fight sprinting in circles while an electrified deer chases you.

Leather Armor is a good option if you have gathered enough Deer Hide, along with a Wood Shield and a Flint Spear, Flint Axe, or another melee weapon. A Crude Bow and a supply of arrows are also useful if you prefer to keep some distance from Eikthyr.

You should also eat three different foods before beginning the fight to increase your available health and stamina. Cooked Deer Meat, Cooked Boar Meat, and Honey are all options that can be obtained during the early stages of the game.

Make sure your weapons and equipment are repaired before heading to the altar. It is also a good idea to clear nearby enemies so you do not have additional creatures interfering once the fight begins.

## How to Summon Eikthyr

Eikthyr requires **2 Deer Trophies** to summon. Deer can be found throughout the Meadows and have a chance to drop a Deer Trophy when killed.

Once you have collected both trophies:

1. Travel to Eikthyr's Mystical Altar.
2. Place the **Deer Trophies** into one of your numbered hotbar slots.
3. Look at the Mystical Altar until you see the option to offer the item.
4. Press the corresponding hotbar key to make the sacrifice.
5. Eikthyr will spawn nearby and the boss fight will begin.

After the sacrifice is made, the area around the altar will react before Eikthyr appears.

Eikthyr can be summoned again later by returning to the altar with another two Deer Trophies, so a rough first attempt is not the end of the world. Your Deer Trophy supply may feel differently.

## How to Defeat Eikthyr

Eikthyr uses a combination of close-range and lightning attacks. His attacks are fairly easy to recognize once you know what to watch for, so avoid using all of your stamina attacking. Keeping some stamina available will allow you to move or dodge when Eikthyr begins an attack.

You can fight Eikthyr at close range with a shield and melee weapon or attack from a distance with a bow. Using a bow makes it easier to keep away from his close-range attacks, which is never a bad thing when the boss is a giant deer throwing lightning around. A shield gives melee players another option for protecting themselves when staying close.

### Eikthyr's Attacks

Eikthyr has three main attacks to watch for during the fight.

**Antler Swipe**

When you are close to Eikthyr, he can swing his antlers across the area in front of him. Move away, dodge, or use your shield when you see him preparing the attack.

**Lightning Charge**

Eikthyr can send a lightning attack forward over a much larger distance. Watch the direction he is facing and move out of the path of the attack when you see him preparing it.

**Lightning Stomp**

Eikthyr can also release lightning across the area surrounding him. If you are fighting at close range, create some distance when you see him begin this attack.

Continue attacking between Eikthyr's attacks until his health is depleted.

## Eikthyr Rewards

After Eikthyr is defeated, he will drop:

- **1 Eikthyr Trophy**
- **3 Hard Antlers**

Hard Antlers unlock the recipe for the **Antler Pickaxe**, which allows you to begin mining ore and start progressing into metal tools, weapons, and armor.

Make sure you also collect the Eikthyr Trophy. You will need to return it to the Sacrificial Stones to unlock Eikthyr's Forsaken Power.

## How to Unlock Eikthyr's Forsaken Power

After defeating Eikthyr, return to the Sacrificial Stones where you first entered your world. Locate Eikthyr's Sacrificial Stone and place the **Eikthyr Trophy** onto it.

Once the trophy has been mounted, interact with Eikthyr's stone to activate his Forsaken Power.

Eikthyr's Forsaken Power reduces stamina consumption while **running, jumping, and swimming by 60%**. The effect lasts for **5 minutes** before wearing off.

Forsaken Powers can be used again after their cooldown has ended, so Eikthyr's power remains useful even after you have progressed beyond the Meadows.

## Final Thoughts

Defeating Eikthyr is your first major step in progressing through Valheim. Once the lightning deer problem is handled, the Hard Antlers dropped during the fight let you craft an Antler Pickaxe and begin gathering the ore needed for metal equipment.
