# How to Generate and Add a GSLT Key to Your The Forest Server

How to generate and add a GSLT key to your The Forest Server in your Game Settings.

For many games, you’re required to have a GSLT Key for your server. If you do not have one for your The Forest Server, then your server will be labeled at anonymous. This may cause you to encounter issues such as problems with player’s inventory or player data not saving. For this reason, we highly recommend you add a GSLT Key to your server.

**Note:** We recommend to fully stop your The Forest server before making any configuration or setting changes.

### Why is a GSLT Key Required

Most games require a GSLT Login Token to run the server to ensure that the servers are created by real individuals and to hold accountability to the owner if those servers are to violate the games Terms of Service.

### How to Obtain a GSLT Key

1. Login to your Steam Account on the [Steam Community](https://steamcommunity.com) website.
2. Navigate to the [Steam Game Servers Account](https://steamcommunity.com/dev/managegameservers).
3. Enter The Forest App ID `242760` into the App ID field.
4. Select Create.

### How to Add Your GSLT Key

1. Locate the Game Settings in the Nodecraft Pro Panel.
2. In the Basic tab of the Game Setting add your GSLT key in the Steam Game Server Account field.

3. Select Submit to Save your changes.
4. Start your The Forest server.
