# How to OP Players on Your Minecraft Server

Follow these steps to learn how to give players OP on your Minecraft server!

Minecraft OP (operator) status gives a player full access to all commands and permissions on a Minecraft server. By default, there are no Minecraft server operators on your server. This article will walk you through the steps to OP a player on your server.

**Note: Before continuing, be sure that you fully trust the person you provide with OP. **

> An operator is one of the highest levels of access any player can have on a Minecraft server.

## How to Give or Remove OP

You can assign OP players by using either your Minecraft servers control panel, Console Commands, or even in-game commands (by other OPs). For this guide, we will focus on how to complete this using Minecraft servers hosted by Nodecraft.

#### Using the Nodecraft Control Panel

1. Navigate to your Minecraft servers control panel.
2. Locate the **Players** option on the left-hand side.
3. Click on the **Admins (OP)** tab.
4. Use the available search box to locate the player you wish to provide OP to.
5. Choose the OP level.
6. Click the **OP Player** button.
7. Click **Submit**.

**Note: ****After making changes to players, you may need to restart your server to apply the new settings.**

#### Using the Console or In-Game Commands

Using the command `/op` you can assign or remove OP from a player.

1. Navigate to your Nodecraft Dashboard.
2. Click the **Panel** button for your Minecraft server.
3. Locate and click **Console** in the menu on the left side.
4. With the server running, type **/op <username>** at the bottom of the console.

Note: Replace **<username>** with the Minecraft username of the player you wish to OP. As an example, we would type **/op NC\_Lottie**.
5. Press the **Enter** key on your keyboard to enter that command.

You will receive a response similar to:

\[Server thread/INFO\]: **Made NC\_Lottie a server operator**

You can also remove OP from a player by using the `/deop` command.

## Minecraft Operator (OP) Levels

Minecraft Operators (OPs) define a basic permissions system in vanilla Minecraft. Further customization of this would require a permissions plugin, such as LuckPerms.

| Level | Title | Description |
| --- | --- | --- |
| 1 | Moderator | Players are able to bypass spawn protection. This level does not allow players to run any commands except for those that are already available to all players. |
| 2 | Gamemaster | Players are able to run all singleplayer cheat commands, except /publish, as this does not exist on servers. This level is also the minimum required to edit command blocks. |
| 3 | Admin | Players are able to run all multiplayer commands, including /ban, /kick, and /op. Players will not be able to stop the server or disable autosave. |
| 4 | Owner | Players can run all commands, including /stop. |

In each level, players are also able to perform the actions of all previous levels.
