# Customizing PokéLoot Spawns and Rewards

PokéLoot rewards encourage exploration by placing collectible items throughout the world. This guide explains every setting in pokeloot.yml, including how PokéLoot appears, respawns, despawns, and rewards players on your Pixelmon server.

The PokéLoot section contains the options Pixelmon uses for this part of the server. Configure PokéLoot visibility, respawning, loot modes, despawning, and reward behavior.

## Pixelmon PokéLoot Settings

The settings below are listed in the same order as they appear in pokeloot.yml. The table preserves each default and identifies the accepted value type. The Setting column shows a reader-friendly name first, followed by the matching pokeloot.yml key for reference.

| Setting and Config Key | Default and Accepted Values | Description |
| --- | --- | --- |
| **Spawn Normal** spawn-normal | **Default:** true **Values:** true or false | Whether or not visible PokéLoot chests spawn naturally. |
| **Spawn Hidden** spawn-hidden | **Default:** true **Values:** true or false | Whether or not invisible PokéLoot chests spawn naturally. |
| **Loot Spawn Rate** loot-spawn-rate | **Default:** {min-distance: 143; min-chunk: 8; hidden-frequency: 2} **Values:** mapping of keys and values | The frequency at which PokéLoot chests spawn. Below are the values for the legacy modes: - MINIMAL (min-distance: 508, min-chunk: 64, hidden-frequency: 4) - NORMAL (min-distance: 254, min-chunk: 32, hidden-frequency: 2) - MORE (min-distance: 143, min-chunk: 18, hidden-frequency: 3) - EXTREME (min-distance: 76, min-chunk: 9, hidden-frequency: 3) |
| **Spawn Mode** spawn-mode | **Default:** FCFS **Values:** text value | The default setting for how PokéLoot chests act once looted. The Different Modes are as Follows: - FCFS - PL - PU - TIMED |
| **Loot Time** loot-time | **Default:** 24 **Values:** whole number | How often players can loot PokéLoot chests that are set to have timed loot. This value is in hours. |
| **Log Spawning** log-spawning | **Default:** false **Values:** true or false | If the locations of spawned PokéLoot chests should be logged to the console for debugging purposes. |

## Important PokéLoot Setting Notes

### Defaults and Value Types

Boolean toggles, numeric rates, timers, lists, and mappings use different value formats. Preserve the value type shown in the table and keep collection syntax intact when changing pokeloot.yml.

### Settings That Work Together

Several pokéloot options can affect the same outcome. Review related rates, limits, timers, and lists together before deciding that one value is responsible for a result.

### Testing Changes

- Change one related group of settings at a time so its effect is easy to measure.
- Test the result under the conditions affected by the setting, including relevant dimensions, player states, or encounter types.
- Keep a copy of the previous values so unexpected balance or performance changes can be reversed quickly.

## Final Thoughts

PokéLoot settings are easier to balance when changes are deliberate and documented. Start with the defaults, adjust only what the server needs, and verify the result before moving on to the next group.
