# Enshrouded Lagging on G-Portal? Fix It or Switch Host

Is your Enshrouded 1.0 server lagging at G-Portal? This article explains how to fix it by switching to Nodecraft.

Enshrouded server lag, rubberbanding, and "high server load" warnings usually come from one of three things:

1. Not enough RAM allocated to the server
2. Overloaded CPU from shared host hardware
3. More players than your server's plan can handle.

Restarting the server and checking the RAM your server is using can fix some cases, but if lag keeps showing up for just a few players online, then you'll need to consider another fix. The problem is most likely not a config issue, but that your host's hardware is overloaded or running older-generation hardware. The solution is simple: move your world to a more reliable server.

## Why is my Enshrouded server lagging?

Enshrouded has two hardware requirements to keep up with you and your crew playing in a dedicated server:

1. A minimum of 4GB of RAM for 2-3 players. Each player online adds an additional ~100MB of usage.
2. A modern multi-core CPU such as a [high-performance Ryzen](/features/blazing-fast-hardware). The more servers running on the same machine, the less performance your server gets.

Without these two hardware requirements being met, your Enshrouded server won't have a chance to create smooth gameplay. Any high-performance host with these two solutions will tell you what hardware your server is running and how much RAM is available:

We strongly recommend a host that gives you clear RAM allocations as well.

### How to fix Enshrouded lag on G-Portal (try these first)

If your server has been online for long periods of time (longer than 2-3 days), the added uptime can compound and make existing performance issues worse. We recommend a quick, cheeky server restart to see if this helps clear out any memory leaks or other common performance problems. It's best to create an automation to restart your server right before you expect players to join. Use [Automated Tasks](/features/automation) to quickly solve this. If you are unsure, contact G-Portal support for help on this.

### Is it your game server host or the game? A quick test

If specific players are having an issue on your server, make sure that:

1. Your problem player is geographically located close to the server. Ideally the same country or within 500 miles or 800 km for an ideal ping.
2. Your problem player doesn't have bad wifi or network connectivity to common/public services. Use [fast.com](http://fast.com) to quickly check your ping to Netflix. If your player's ping is more than 50ms to Netflix, they likely have an issue with their network.
3. Perform a [ping test](/support/knowledgebase/advanced/performing-a-ping-test) and [traceroute test](/support/knowledgebase/advanced/performing-a-traceroute) to your server. Your game server host should be able to tell you what's wrong with these results.
4. The operating system and graphics drivers are up to date.

In many cases, your player may have a simple issue like wifi that can feel like server lag. If everyone lags at the same time, it's server-side. Signs it's your host: lag with only one or two players online, "high server load" warnings at low player counts, and problems that come back after every restart. Signs it's the game: players on many different hosts reporting the same issue right after a patch.

### Will Enshrouded 1.0 make server lag worse?

With the loads of new content available on Enshrouded 1.0 ([see the full changelog here](/blog/game-news-tips/enshrouded-1-0-combat-changes-new-spells-skills-level-cap-and-more)), some players may wonder if it's too much for your existing server. From our initial testing at Nodecraft, it's clear that the performance improvements over the last year are still paying off. Old worlds import without substantial performance hits, and your server is mostly tied to the hardware constraints we listed above. We can't blame Keen Software; they did a great job with this launch!

## How to move your Enshrouded server from G-Portal to Nodecraft

If nothing else above worked, you likely need to get a server host that cares about performance. At Nodecraft, we ensure every server has a clear and blazing-fast hardware allocation to give you the best in server hosting. To switch, just follow these steps:

1. Stop your server at G-Portal. **Do not proceed until the server is offline.** If you start it up again you may risk corrupting the world or losing new progress.
2. Download your server files via [FTP](/support/knowledgebase/nodepanel/basic-ftp-tutorial). This ensures your world and player data are able to be moved over.
3. [Create an Enshrouded Server with a Free Trial at Nodecraft](/games/enshrouded-server-hosting) for up to 3 days. This lets you check the performance before making a purchase.
4. Upload the server files via the [Web File Manager](/support/knowledgebase/nodepanel/file-manager-tutorial) or use FTP again. If you need help with this step, please reach out to Support via the live chat option. You can find a more detailed [guide on uploading your world here, too](/support/games/enshrouded/setup/how-to-upload-a-save-to-your-enshrouded-server).
5. Invite friends and see how performance works for your squad.

##### Why server owners are ditching G-Portal for Nodecraft

1. **Hardware you can actually see.** Every server runs on modern Ryzen 9 or EPYC CPUs, and your panel shows exactly which CPU you're on and how much RAM you have. No guessing what you're paying for.
2. **Save & Swap at no extra cost.** Enshrouded groups tend to play in waves around big updates. Swap your server to another game in between, then come back to your world exactly as you left it.
3. **Automated restarts built in.** Use Automated Tasks to restart your server right before your group logs on, so long uptime never builds up.
4. **Live in seconds.** New servers are ready almost instantly, and the free trial lets you test your world before you cancel G-Portal.
5. **Real people on support.** Reach our team by live chat, phone, or email when something goes wrong.
